If you have any questions that aren't answered below, feel free to contact us.
What is therapy like?
Therapy begins when a person takes the courageous step of asking for support. When we first talk, both in the free 20-minute consultation and in our first session, we'll discuss what your concerns are, and what you would like to get out of the therapy process. We will also fill out some paperwork the first time you come in.
Beyond that, you can expect therapy to be a safe place for you to share what is going on in your life, from what's going well to what's troubling you. These conversations become a problem-solving session, where your therapist will listen, ask questions, and work together with you to find ways to manage your concerns.
How long is a session?
A standard session is 50 minutes. If you would like more time, please let your therapist know when booking your appointment.
How often do I need to come?
This can be different for everyone, depending on what you're working on and how you're feeling. Some people come every week, some every 2 weeks, every month, or whenever they need. That's something you can talk about with your therapist during your free 20-minute consultation.
Is your location accessible for clients with mobility issues?
Yes! We are in a building with 4 elevators for easy access. We have tried to create a layout that is easy to navigate and easily adapted as needed. Some accommodations can be made for those with mobility issues in consultation with your therapist (for example, video sessions, in-home sessions). Additionally, there is an accessible washroom just down the hall from our office. Please contact us to discuss these options.
Are our sessions confidential?
Anything you say during a therapy session is kept confidential; it can't be shared with anyone. There are a few exceptions to this. The only situations in which we would have to share information with others are:
If you or someone else is at imminent risk;
If a minor or dependent adult is being neglected or abused;
If the therapist receives a subpoena from court or is otherwise required by law to share information; or
If you give written permission to your therapist to share specific information with another party.
How much does each session cost?
As Mike and Meg are both Registered Psychologists, we follow the PAA Fee Schedule.
Meg's profile says "expressive" therapy - what is that, anyway?
Sometimes talking about a problem isn't the best way to work with it. Expressive therapy means that we use approaches like painting, drawing, writing, making crafts, playing games, moving our bodies, and making or listening to music. This type of therapy allows us to be creative, to use our imaginations, and find ways to see and understand things that are hard to put words to.
Do you do direct billing?
We are not currently equipped for direct billing. Please check your benefits in advance whether they cover the type of therapist you're seeing.
Do you do evening or weekend appointments?
Yes - we do currently offer weekday evening appointments. We do not currently offer regular weekend appointments for therapy, although Mike does sometimes run assessment sessions on weekends.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 48 hours notice for cancelling appointments. We will also give you 48 hours notice if we need to cancel.
