When we have challenges that seem too much to handle, we can start to feel like there's something wrong with us. Sometimes, we engage in harmful behaviours or internalize harmful beliefs, living with guilt and shame.
The challenges that life throws at us are complicated. We are affected by so many things around us: our relationships, our families, our workplaces, our culture and our communities. I work with my clients to help figure out how the systems around them influence their lives and how they can make changes and draw on their strengths to promote resilience and self-worth. I believe in providing a space where clients can feel safe to bring the whole of who they are into therapy and dedicate myself to learning and growing alongside them.
Sometimes, we judge ourselves unfairly for our normal feelings and natural human processes. Grief after a loss. Anxiety and fear after a trauma. Sadness about hurtful relationships. Feeling uncertain or stuck during a time of transition. Because these are normal reactions to life stressors, we won't necessarily find solutions to the problem that brings you in. Instead, I can help you to generate new understandings of these problems and your responses to them and assist you in integrating them into your life story in a way that gives you as much power, choice, and agency as possible.
In the end, I want to honour and respect you as a whole person because you are so much more than the problems you're struggling with. I like to balance my work with clients with humour, creativity, and drawing from the wisdom of their bodies so that together, we can find ways for you to author your story with insight, understanding, and confidence.
